Abscott Cottage is a stunning, rural North Devon holiday cottage near Barnstaple and has been designed as a luxurious, open plan self catering holiday cottage for six people in three double bedrooms – all with en suites. You’ll enjoy its big internal spaces, the uncluttered contemporary feel, beautiful views of the North Devon countryside and a certain “wow factor” created by its light and airy spaces which just ooze the holiday feeling from the moment one arrives.
Abscott is a contemporary detached self catering holiday cottage near Barnstaple built with the open plan reception room, one vast pine-beamed space on the first floor to make the most of sweeping views over the stunning North Devon countryside. On the ground floor you’ll discover three spacious en suite bedrooms, two with double doors opening onto suntrap patios.
Built in 2006, the Cottage is designed specifically for self catering holidays for families or friends. Whether inside or out, there are plenty of spaces for communal gathering. Chef’s won’t need to cook alone should they not wish to, while outside south facing patios and lawns act as sun traps for lazy afternoons in the company of good friends. We hope you’ll enjoy it.

A brush with history
For history lovers, Abscott Cottage is part of the Youlston Park Estate in Shirwell, North Devon. The estate originally comprised over 3500 acres. It was once the childhood home of Sir Francis Chichester who circumnavigated the globe in Gipsy Moth IV. Today the Estate is run as a private home – with a care and attention to detail that ensures you’ll enjoy memorable and relaxing holiday at Abscott.
The perfect location
Abscott Holiday cottage is in Shirwell, a small typical Devon village a few miles north of Barnstaple you might try to find Sir Francis Chichester’s grave in the churchyard of the village’s 12th Century Church (in earlier times he used the pumps outside the old village shop to top up his tanks for his Gypsy Moth aeroplane whenever he flew into Youlston Park).
Abscott Cottage is ideally located for discovering Barnstaple and North Devon. It is equidistant from some of Devon’s finest beaches such as Saunton Sands, Croyde Beach and Woolacombe, spectacular cliff top walks along the South West Coastal footpath between Combe Martin and Lynton and the wild grandeur of the Exmoor National Park.
